The past 18 months has seen an unprecedented change in the government’s attitude to pensions. The coalition government forced with difficult cost saving decisions has reduced all future Civil Service and Armed Forces Pension Scheme benefits.
Most notably by now increasing pensions annually by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as opposed to the historically more generous Retail Price Index (RPI) those people with a military or civil service pension who are no longer serving should review future pension benefits in the light of these legislative changes and make plans to compensate for the reduction in benefits before it is too late.
The first step should be to have a pension health check on your existing pension and find out the level of future benefits, the second step should be to get all of the facts……. not relying on sensationalist newspaper articles, conflicting rumours circulating from work colleagues and an amount of misinterpretation of existing legislation.
